Pacific Electric once provided electrified rail transportation on 1000 miles worth of lines across the LA Basin. The company ceased passenger operations in 1961. Decades later, in 2003, a historic trolley operation began in San Pedro, CA in an area once served by the Pacific Electric. The San Pedro Red Car Trolley ran along the waterfront, carrying thousands of guests around in two replica 500 series Pacific Electric trolley cars.
