Made over 4200 years ago, this cup is attributed to the 6th Dynasty of Egypt’s Old Kingdom, during the reign of Pepi II. It is made of travertine (Egyptian alabaster) and features hieroglyphs on one side. A translation provided by the MET identifies the owner as Queen Mother Ankhenes-Pepi, and also says “The life of Neferkare endures.” The cup has a distinctive small spout extending from one side.
