Invented in the mid-70's by Erno Rubik, a Hungarian professor of design, “the Magic Cube”—as it was originally called—had modest success in communist Hungary. At an international toy fair in September 1979 in Nuremberg, Germany, toy specialist Tom Kremer spotted the cube and negotiated a deal to distribute the game worldwide.
