That was originally the case, but the true final boss was scrapped for unknown reasons. Destroy all the Metal Sonic holograms and robot teleporters or get all the time stones to get the good ending. #8.

Couldve sworn at one point i destroyed like one and it counted as a good future. To get a good future in a stage you have to go to the past and destroy the teleporter, to get the good future in act 3 you need to do that in the first 2 acts of each zone. You repeat this until beating the game to get the good ending. #8.

I know when you get all 7 it automatically makes it so when you pass any remaining stages you pass them with a good future set. However if you can set a good future by destroying eggmans pods doesn't that pretty much do the same thing.
