Oct 15, 2023 · Apple will offer a replacement, but enclosure damage is a WUR (Whole unit replacement), still a $29 charge but a backup is recommended/needed since you will get a whole new phone. WUR is a $99 fee, not $29. And cosmetic damage is excluded in the AppleCare+ terms & conditions (section 4.1)

ONLY paid, extended, AppleCare+ warranty plan covers user damages, like a cracked screen. If you didn't purchase extended AppleCare+ for that iPad, be prepared to pay a high cost for repair/device replacement.

But to use express replacement service for a cracked screen, it means that they will charge you the amount for accidental damage, whereas if you bring the phone to the store, you can pay a lower amount for accidental screen replacement. I contacted Apple support on chat and they quoted me an estimated price of $30.92 to fix a scratched screen, with the caveat that the technician would determine the final price.
