The Cincinnati Health Department has identified West Nile virus in a mosquito for the first time in 2025.The department said Tuesday that a mosquito collected from Madisonville has tested positive for the virus.

The Cincinnati Health Department is asking residents to protect themselves after a mosquito sample came back positive for West Nile virus.

Hamilton County Public Health says it hasn't detected any additional presence of West Nile in the 218 mosquitos it sent to the Ohio Department of Health for testing so far this year. ODH hasn't confirmed any cases of West Nile virus in humans this year. Last year, there were 14 reported cases statewide.
