Forecasters say some of the strong storm cells could generate rainfall rates of 1.5 to 2.5 inches per hour, which could result in rapid flooding on roads and near creeks or streams.

The National Weather Service issued the flash flood warning at 3:20 p.m. and said Waterbury, Naugatuck, Southbury, Prospect, Middlebury, Beacon Falls, Bethany and Oxford could be impacted. The warning is in effect until 6 p.m.

The flash flood warning is in effect until 2 p.m. in south central Anderson County, northwestern Blount County, west central Jefferson County, Knox County, northeastern Loudon County, southeastern Roane County and northwestern Sevier County.
