LSU All-American left-hander Kade Anderson was selected No. 3 overall Sunday night in the first round of the MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners. Anderson, a sophomore from Madisonville, La., is the fourth LSU player in the last four seasons to be among the Top 5 overall MLB Draft selections.
Minnesota added another shortstop Sunday night: high schooler Quentin Young, the nephew of former Twin Delmon Young. The 6-foot-6 18-year-old is committed to Louisiana State University, and MLB.com said he "has a ton of projection, obvious baseball bloodlines and some loud tools."
The Detroit Tigers leaned into selecting late-rising prospects as part of their haul in Day 1 of the 2025 MLB Draft on Sunday. The Tigers began the night picking shortstop Jordan Yost with the No. 24 pick, followed by catcher Michael Oliveto 34th overall, righty Malachi Witherspoon in the second round and lefty Ben Jacobs in the third round.
Round after round passed and Novi star left-hander Uli Fernsler and Birmingham Brother Rice right-hander Blake Ilitch didn’t hear their name called.
