The Montreal Canadiens have signed recently acquired and then bought out Seattle Kraken forward Joe Veleno to a one-year, $900,000 contract.

Amid buoyant crypto markets and growing mainstream acceptance of digital currencies, Kraken is racing to establish itself as a one-stop digital asset investing platform.

Kraken said Tuesday it rolled out a U.S.-regulated crypto derivatives platform that merges spot and futures trading into a single interface. Kraken Derivatives US allows eligible users to trade futures alongside one of the world’s most liquid cryptocurrency spot markets,

The debut comes on the heels of acquiring CFTC-regulated futures trading platform NinjaTrader for $1.5 billion.

The Seattle Kraken are in the midst of a retool, and, per David Pagnotta, may move on from star forward Jared McCann.
