Freedom Rally against Boston's segregated school system and the entrenched poverty in poor communities brought the civil rights movement to the Northeast. Sixty years on, much of the focus at an event marking the rally's anniversary was on criticizing President Donald Trump and his administration for current divisions and fears about race and immigration across the country.

Hundreds gathered in Boston on Saturday to honor the 60th anniversary of the historic 1965 Freedom Rally, a pivotal moment in the civil rights movement. The commemorative rally began at 10:30 a.m. in Copley Square, where attendees marched down Boylston Street to Charles Street.

The rally included Martin Luther King III as well as other local and state leaders across a variety of sectors.
