Connecticut Sun star Tina Charles and Chicago Sky phenom Angel Reese had a heated moment in Sunday’s game, but both hold a deep mutual respect for the other.
Tina Charles knows what elite rebounding looks like — she’s built a WNBA career on it. And after facing Angel Reese in the Connecticut Sun’s 78-66 loss to the Chicago Sky on Sunday, Charles saw something that reminded her of her younger self.
Charles and Reese continued their dialogue throughout Sunday’s game in Connecticut. And when play heated up in the third quarter, the two got in each other’s faces. Despite standout performances from the star duo of Tina Charles and Marina Mabrey, the Connecticut Sun fell to last place in the Eastern Conference Commissioner’s Cup standings with a 78-66 loss to the Chicago Sky at Mohegan Sun Arena on Sunday.
It’s not a real surprise that the Sun are struggling. Connecticut lost all five starters from last season’s team that made it to at least the playoff semifinals for the sixth consecutive season. No team in WNBA history has had as much changeover from one year to the next as the Sun have had.
So far on the court it’s been a rough start to the season for the Sun, who have lost six of their first seven games, including suffering the worst defeat in franchise history in their last outing — a 48-point loss to New York .
