A recent report said an estimated 200,000 people in state, foster and faith-based care suffered ‘unimaginable’ abuse over a period of seven decades.

Survivors have attended a formal apology from New Zealand's leaders at Parliament for the abuse of thousands of children and vulnerable adults in state, foster and faith-based care.

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said sorry to some 200,000 survivors of physical and sexual abuse in institutions, which an inquiry called a “national disgrace.”
