Enzo Maresca has been slammed over his ‘unfair’ treatment of Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell. Chilwell was one of several Chelsea players to be placed in Maresca’s ‘bomb squad’ following his arrival at Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Maresca has recalled a formerly exiled Chelsea player to training in what has been described as a ‘shock U-turn’. Moving from Championship winners Leicester City this summer, Maresca wasted no time in showing authority as many players were banished from the first-team squad and sent to train away from them.

Enzo Maresca might want to dip into Gareth Southgate’s football lexicon to find the best term to describe his Chelsea substitutes. Southgate preferred to refer to his England substitutes as ‘finishers’ and there has been evidence already this season that head coach Maresca views his Chelsea bench similarly.
