(USA TODAY) — Cannon Mountain, the tough skiing capital of New Hampshire, has always been a place where skiers and riders go to test themselves amid the harsh majesty of Franconia Notch.

Just south of downtown, the tram starts near the cruise ship dock. The five-minute ride takes you 1,800 feet halfway up the mountain for some spectacular views of Juneau and Gastineau Channel.
