A line of severe storms triggered tornado warnings for parts of the area late Wednesday, and brought dangerous wind, hail and blinding downpours to the entire Chicago area. As of Wednesday night, a Tornado Watch remained in effect for Benton and Newton counties in Indiana,

If you live in a high-rise apartment building, you should use the stairs to get to the bottom floor, and seek shelter in the staircase, hallways, or even parking garage! If you can’t get to the bottom floor, get away from windows, seek shelter in a closet, and cover yourself with a blanket or mattress.

With it being severe weather awareness week, it is very important to understand the difference between a severe watch and warning.
