Leaders in Matagorda County issued a disaster declaration on Thursday due to ongoing severe weather. The declaration allows local authorities to do what they need to do to respond to issues caused by the storms and ensure their residents are safe.
Sunday night’s thunderstorms knocked out power to tens of thousands of people across North Texas, brought winds over 50 miles per hour and dropped 1-3 inches of rain. The storms, while strong, were not quite as intense as some forecasts originally suggested.
FOX Weather Exclusive Storm Tracker Brandon Copic was tracking storms in northwestern Texas on Thursday when he encountered this monster "dust buster" blasting through a field in Morton.
A Flood Watch remains in effect throughout the rest of Thursday as rain chances persist through the late morning and early afternoon, contributing even more to rain accumulation. As we get closer to lunchtime, rain potential will be harder to find, though an isolated storm or two are possible.
According to the National Weather Service, Dallas is under a flood watch. Surrounding areas could see one to four inches of heavy rain.
Continued weather warnings remain in effect, including a flash flood warning this morning and a flood watch through 7 p.m.

The tornado is believed to have touched down early this morning. Some minor damage like downed trees was spotted by FOX 7 Austin crews at the scene.
One of the hardest-hit places was Bonham, where wind and rain caused trees to hit homes and power lines all over town.
