Qatari diplomat Mohammed bin Abdulaziz al-Khulaifi has welcomed the peace agreement between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), saying that it came after several rounds of talks, some of which were held in Doha.

A new agreement between DRC and Rwanda seeks to end violence in eastern DRC, but many local residents remain uncertain about armed group withdrawals and fear the deal will mainly benefit foreign interests.

The agreement marks a breakthrough in talks and intends to attract billions of dollars of Western investment to a region rich in cobalt, copper, lithium and other minerals.
