A third home has collapsed along Cape Hatteras National Seashore, highlighting the ongoing threat of erosion and rising sea levels to North Carolina's Outer Banks.

Another Outer Banks beach house collapsed into the ocean Friday morning, the second home to be washed away in the village of Rodanthe in less than a month.

Officials say to stay out of the water near the north end of Rodanthe and potentially for miles to the south, due to an early morning collapse of an unoccupied house.

The collapse happened Friday morning at 23001 G A Kohler Court in Rodanthe, according to Cape Hatteras National Seashore officials.

Dangerous debris may be present on the beach and in the water near the collapse site, according to the National Park Service.

Cape Hatteras National Seashore said the unoccupied oceanfront home fell early Sept. 20 in Rodanthe, a roughly 215-mile drive southeast from Raleigh. The house is the eighth to collapse in the area during the past four years.
