In last night's game between the Edmonton Oilers and Minnesota Wild, Connor McDavid connected an elbow to the head of with Marcus Johansson, and is being called out for it.

After the game, The Athletic’s Michael Russo reported that Minnesota defenceman Jake Middleton had some very strong words about the non-call. The veteran defender said the non-call was “horse sh*t” and that he doesn’t care “if it’s the best player in the world”.

Vasily Podkolzin scored the tiebreaking goal early in the third period, Connor McDavid had two goals and an assist, and the Edmonton Oilers beat the Minnesota Wild 5-3 for their seventh win in eight games.

McDavid’s second goal of the game at 12:49 of the third period gave him 1,044 points in 686 career games with Edmonton, passing Hockey Hall of Famer Jari Kurri’s mark with the Oilers (1,043 points in 754 games). Wayne Gretzky is the franchise leader in points (1,669 in 696 games).

The 6-foot-1 forward was in the defensive zone when he caught an elbow from Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid. Johansson immediately fell over and his helmet also came off later. There was no penalty on the play despite McDavid sticking his elbow out,

Connor McDavid isn’t expected to face any supplemental discipline from the NHL’s Department of Player Safety after elbowing Minnesota Wild winger Marcus Johansson, Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli reported Thursday.

The Edmonton Oilers blew out the Minnesota Wild the last time these two teams met to the tune of a 7-1 finish, and it was the kind of result that was as fun as it was unexpected.
