Congress is holding its CWC meeting on December 26 and 27 in Belagavi to celebrate the centenary of the 1924 session of the party.

Earlier today, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge accused the BJP of deliberately weakening democratic institutions at the Congress Working Committee's (CWC) "Nav Satyagraha Baithak" in Belagavi, as the party commemorated the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi’s 1924 presidency.

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting named "Nav Satyagraha Baithak" began here on Thursday as the party marks the 100th anniversary of its Belgaum session that was presided over by Mahatma Gandhi and chalks out a plan for the political and electoral challenges in 2025.

Taking a swipe at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the former Congress chief called for a fight against the forces she accused of creating a toxic atmosphere that led to Mahatma Gandhi's assassination.

Congress leader Sonia Gandhi on Thursday accused those in power in New Delhi of undermining the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and urged party workers to renew their resolve in confronting these challenges with determination. She, without directly naming anyone, asserted that "they created a toxic atmosphere that led to his (Gandhi's) assassination".
