A winter storm that is producing snowy and icy weather across the southern Plains on Thursday will take aim at the Southeast, mid-Atlantic and Northeast by Friday.

ATLANTA - Ice and snow are on the way with this winter storm. Stores across metro Atlanta are having a hard time keeping rock salt and ice melt on the shelves. Many are trying to find alternatives to help prevent ice accumulation on driveways and sidewalks.

“Mainly a wet snow, maybe some sleet, but mostly frozen. But that’s going to lead to accumulations to 2-3, isolated 4-inch totals or higher in the higher peaks of the North Georgia mountains,” Nitz said. Most of the metro area will see a combination of wintery weather on Friday.
