Jonathan Holloway will resign at the end of Rutgers' academic year, ending a tumultuous five years as president of New Jersey's largest university.

Jonathan Holloway, the embattled president of Rutgers University, announced Tuesday that he will step down next year after a tenure that has included contending with the COVID-19 pandemic, overseeing the university’s first-ever strike and surviving a no-confidence vote by the faculty senate.

The president of Rutgers University has announced he will resign next summer. Jonathan Holloway would have completed five years in that role on June 30, 2025. He is the university’s 21st president.

The president of New Jersey’s flagship university says he will step down next year. Jonathan Holloway became the first Black president of Rutgers University when he took office in the summer of 2020.
