So far, no human cases have been reported in New Orleans this year. But nationally, the bulk of West Nile cases are typically reported in August and September, according to the CDC.

In 2024, Louisiana recorded 617 positive mosquito pools, including four in New Orleans. Statewide, three people died of the virus last year. West Nile virus can cause mild to severe illness.
