In a move echoing President Trump’s call to “restore names that honor American greatness,” Florida lawmakers took the first legislative steps Tuesday to replace the Gulf of Mexico with the “Gulf of America” in state laws and educational materials.

A new bill introduced by a Florida lawmaker would require the state to update their geography to recognize the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.

Just weeks after Gov. Ron DeSantis first used the term in a state document, legislation designating the Gulf of America advance in the Legislature.
