Southern California’s football program has been fined $50,000 and placed on probation for one year by the NCAA because of multiple violations of coaching staff rules over two seasons.

The NCAA has put the USC Trojans football team on a one-year probation and face a $50,000 fine for coaching violations, according to a report from 247 Sports. U

"Eight analysts for the football program engaged in on- and off-field coaching activities during spring 2022, fall 2022 and spring 2023, resulting in the football program exceeding the permissible number of countable coaches by six for two academic years," which violated NCAA rules, according to a release.

The NCAA has placed the USC football program on probation stemming from a violation of coaching activities. An investigation, which USC cooperated fully with, found that a total of eight analysts for the program engaged in on and off-field coaching activities in the spring and fall of 2022 as well as the spring of 2023.

USC coach Lincoln Riley exceeded the number of staff members allowed to act as coaches and was sanctioned by the NCAA, the organization announced.

As if his third year at USC wasn’t already tumultuous enough, Lincoln Riley is now on probation. On Tuesday, the NCAA announced that USC football has been placed on probation for one year, following a lengthy collaborative investigation that determined the program had violated previously in-place bylaws around analysts engaging in countable coaching activities.
