The U.S. southern border has seen a sharp drop in migrant encounters entering between ports of entry at the southern border, according to a CBP source.

Hours after the Pentagon announced that it would send 1,500 active duty troops to the U.S.-Mexico, reports surfaced that the number was actually 10,000.

President Donald Trump has promised swift action on immigration, asylum and border security as he takes office today.

The CBP One entry programme, instituted by President Joe Biden, had allowed thousands of migrants to schedule appointments at entry points across the US-Mexico border.

"The first 100 days are going to be the most aggressive, change oriented policy proposals and procedures that we've ever seen," KOAT political expert Brian Sanderoff said.

The president is making good on his campaign promise with attempts to beef up security at the border and limit immigration.
