Jurickson Profar's signing comes at a crucial time as the Atlanta Braves prepare to open the season without one of their star players.

The Atlanta Braves are finally making moves, with Jurickson Profar now slated to roam the outfield alongside Ronald Acuña Jr. and Michael Harris II.

Profar, one-time Texas infielder, now 32, broke into the big leagues at 19 but has been hampered by lack of playing time and uncertainty over how, when, and where he should be used. According to media reports, he had been pursued by several other clubs – including San Diego and Philadelphia – seeking to beef up their batting orders.

The Braves also signed Bryan De La Cruz to a one-year deal on Dec. 16 to add outfield depth, but the team otherwise had a quiet offseason before the addition of Profar. A switch-hitter, he will join Michael Harris, Jarred Kelenic, Eli White and De La Cruz as Atlanta's top outfielders.

That should make him an option for Atlanta. The Braves need an outfielder. Not only has Jarred Kelenic failed to establish himself as a regular, but Ronald Acuña Jr. isn't expected to be ready for at least the first month of the regular season.

Now that they've inked Profar to a three-year deal, the Braves have a clear idea of how they want to utilize the outfield while Acuña recovers

Profar, a switch-hitter, began lifting his front leg higher at the start of his swing. He said advice from former major leaguer Fernando Tatis and work with San Diego outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. last offseason helped convince him to make the change, which added power to his swing.
