Those living in parts of the Highlands and Western Isles have been warned of a “danger to life” from flying debris, potential power cuts as well as road closures and damage to buildings.

Storm Amy is set to batter Scotland this weekend, with severe weather warnings in place and authorities urging residents to prepare for a tumultuous few days.

"Across exposed areas like the hills and the moors, we could get gusts of around 50 to 60mph" said Katerina Christodoulou, BBC Yorkshire weather presenter.
