Officials say rescue efforts are underway after floodwaters in multiple communities swept homes off their foundations.

Heavy rain and hurricane-force wind gusts are causing damaging flooding in Western Alaska on Sunday, prompting rescues as the remnants of Typhoon Halong continue to impact the region.

Rescue and recovery efforts began Sunday in western Alaska as a major storm caused by remnants of Typhoon Halong hit coastal communities with massive storm surge, flooding and hurricane-force winds up to 100 mph.
