Kevin Young, who came to BYU after nearly two decades coaching in both the NBA and G-League, went 26-10 in his first season as the team's head coach, leading the program to their first Sweet Sixteen appearance since 2011.

Before Thursday's performance by Sears, five players had double-digit 3-point makes in an NCAA Tournament game: Loyola Maymount's Jeff Fryer in 1990 (11), Oakland's Jack Gohlke in 2024 (10), Purdue's Carsen Edwards in 2019 (10), Memphis' Roburt Sallie in 2009 (10) and UNLV's Freddie Banks in 1987 (10).
