A satellite from the European Space Agency captured huge plumes of ash and smoke from Europe's largest volcano.

An eruption of scalding lava, gases, and ash caught tourists off guard while hiking on Italy’s Mount Etna on Monday, June 2.

Mount Etna is one of the world's most active volcanoes. It's the most active volcano in Europe. Its activity increased during 2025, including spectacular eruptions in February, April, and May this year, producing lava flows and ash clouds.
