All of this comes as Microsoft continues to pour billions into its AI efforts and as Wall Street watches to ensure the company sees a return on those investments. Microsoft says it will spend roughly $80 billion expanding its AI data centers and training and deploying AI models across its various business segments.

Microsoft's focus on AI agents for enterprises may be easier to deliver than Google's consumer focus on a universal AI assistant because Microsoft only has to get the tech right. Google has to change its whole business model too.

Microsoft said on Monday it would offer new AI models made by Elon Musk's xAI, Meta Platforms and European startups Mistral and Black Forest Labs hosted in its own data centers, and unveiled a new artificial-intelligence tool designed to complete software coding tasks on its own.

The centerpiece of Microsoft’s announcements is the general availability of the Azure AI Foundry Agent Service announced last fall. The platform allows developers to build, manage and scale up AI agents that automate business processes. It supports multi-agent workflows, enabling specialized agents to coordinate on high-level tasks.

Microsoft introduces Windows AI Foundry to help developers build and run AI models directly on PCs, part of a broader push to bring AI to the device.
