Mohamed Salah said the death of Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota in a car crash had left him "frightened" to return to the club as the Premier League champions postponed the return of some players for pre-season training.

As a child Diogo Jota idolized Cristiano Ronaldo. In a career that took him to soccer stardom, he would go on to call the Portugal great a teammate and win some of the sport’s biggest trophies.

“The spirit of Diogo Jota, the brilliance he brought to the number 20 for Liverpool, will live on forever. In this time of immense sorrow, we ask Liverpool to consider retiring his number as a lasting tribute to an unforgettable player and person. Our thoughts are with his family”, said another fan.
