DUBAI (Reuters) - Tehran has not sent hypersonic missiles to Yemen's Houthis, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said in a televised news conference on Monday, a day after the Iran-backed group said a missile it fired at Israel was a hypersonic one.

A missile was launched from Yemen into central Israel on Sunday morning, according to the Israeli military, in a rare instance of a missile penetrating so far into the country’s territory since its war in Gaza began.

Yemeni-based Houthi militants claimed responsibility for the attack on Sunday. Israeli forces said the missile did not cause any direct injuries.

Houthis claim its new hypersonic missile managed to evade Israel’s air defence systems as Gaza war enters 12th month.

Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi militia on Sunday claimed a ballistic missile fired at Israel and vowed further attacks. Houthi military spokesman Yehya Saree said the attack was carried out with a new hypersonic ballistic missile against an Israeli military target in Jaffa.

Yemen's Houthi group on Monday unveiled their new missile system, which they claimed possesses hypersonic capabilities, just one day after launching a missile attack deep into Israeli territory.

Yemen’s Ansar Allah, commonly known as the Houthis, launched what they said was a hypersonic missile at central Israel. It caused fires, triggered air raid sirens, and sent residents running for shelter in the area around Ben Gurion Airport.
