Jeep's first EV is quiet luxury. Leave the doors on, enjoy the posh seats, and leave the off-roading to the Wrangler.

But more so, the Wagoneer S is so nicely executed, that you really can't tell it's an EV. Until you hit the stop-start button and start driving it. But like any other new car, I still have my specific thoughts.

So the Wagoneer S joins the range as a Wagoneer for the times. As one of Stellantis' first EVs built on STLA Large, it's one of the most highly anticipated new cars to launch using Stellantis’ latest “electric-first” platform. Was it worth the wait and hype? I flew to San Diego to find out.

The $71,995 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S Launch Edition piles on the standard equipment—everything from heated and cooled power front seats, all the digital displays, wireless smartphone charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and delicious sound that emanates from a 1,200-watt McIntosh sound system with 19 speakers and a 12-inch subwoofer.

On sale now, the first Wagoneers are 2024 "Launch Edition" models snazzed to a $71,995 price point inclusive of a $1795 destination charge. But buyers who don't like Bright White paint with a black roof will be dinged an additional $595 for any of the other five colors.

The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S Launch Edition is a cleanly styled, convincingly upscale, and competitively equipped electric SUV. My main complaints are its high price, hard-to-keep-clean screens, and dissatisfying steering. In nearly all other respects, this is a premium EV worth considering.
