After yet another disastrous outing for Devin Williams last night, it’s clear that the New York Yankees have to reconfigure their plans for the closer role.

Williams has an 11.25 ERA with nearly as many walks (seven) as strikeouts (eight) in eight innings over 10 appearances. The right-hander has allowed at least three earned runs three times this season, matching his total from the previous six years combined.

In the span of three batters, Williams had turned a one-run lead into a deficit – a turn of events that prompted Yankees fans to loudly boo him off the mound. All three Toronto Blue Jays that faced Williams reached base, capped by Alejandro Kirk’s go-ahead two-run double.
