A crescendo of nervous speculation reached fever pitch in the city when the body of 20-year-old University of Houston junior Jade McKissic was pulled from Brays Bayou on September 15 – one in a string of seven so far unexplained bayou deaths reported in the Houston area last month.

That timeline would mean UH's nearly 48,000 students will have gone nearly a year without an elected student body, at a time when higher education is seeing widespread changes to campus speech and other policies.

An armed bank robbery occurred Tuesday afternoon at the University of Houston student center, according to a campus security alert from the university. According to the UH alert, a man with a handgun allegedly robbed the Texas Dupont Employees Credit Union (TDECU) at the Student Center South at approximately 4:15 p.m.
