When Stranger Things first premiered in 2016, it wore its many ’80s influences on its sleeve. That nostalgia still permeates the fifth and final season, but nearly a decade later, the rollout of its grand finale felt distinctly modern — and that included the messy fallout of Will Byers’ (Noah Schnapp) long-awaited, controversial coming out scene.
