A unified command included the state's Office of Spill Prevention and Response, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office and Carbon California. As of Wednesday, there were no reports of wildlife impacted by the oil, but authorities asked the public to report any sightings to 1-877-823-6926.

Cleanup was underway Wednesday in a wooded, remote area of Ventura County after about 420 gallons of crude oil inundated a waterway, officials said, and crews were working to beat the upcoming storm.
The plan has been met with strong opposition from California Gov. Gavin Newsom and is likely to draw bipartisan pushback in Florida, as well.
