How many women are on Alabama's death row? Here are the 5 inmates
Alabama has 154 death row inmates, but only five are women. Here's what to know.
A U.S. appeals court on Wednesday halted the execution of death row inmate Christa Pike in Tennessee, less than two hours before she was scheduled to become the first woman that state has put to death in more than two hundred years.
Pike and her attorneys have asked Lee for clemency, noting her age at the time of the crime and untreated mental illness after a childhood of brutal sexual abuse and neglect, stating she would not be given the same sentence if the crime occurred today.
With her execution days away, the lone woman on Tennessee’s death row says she is prepared to die but “nervous” about how the state intends to carry it out.
