Both the hospital and the Chelsea Pensioners are famous, legendary, mythic, and, until now, mostly unseen. The new museum is small, beautifully presented, and inspirational. What a lovely treat.

The institution, which focuses on Himalayan art, was founded in 2004 and will shutter its building at 150 W. 17th St. on Oct. 6 as it becomes "a museum without walls," according to the announcement.
