Pop Hits Were Really Slow (Again) in 2018. Listeners continue to crave unhurried music: The average tempo of major hits in the last two years has stayed around 93 beats per minute.

These pop one-hit wonders from the 1970s were megahits back in the day, but they probably wouldn't chart as well in the 21st century.

However, I think a few pop hits from back in the day would be even better if they were heavy, intense rock songs. Let’s look at just three examples, along with a few rock covers that prove my point.
