Winter storm warnings were in place for seven states across the country from the National Weather Service (NWS) early on Monday, with up to 17 inches of snow forecast in some areas. A winter weather advisory was also in place from the NWS for parts of Utah at the time of writing.

GMT on New Year's Eve until 14:00. The windy conditions could cause transport disruption, power outages, and impacts along coastal areas due to large waves. As temperatures fall close to freezing, there may be some snow across parts of Northern Ireland on New Year's Day.

Covering Monday 30 December to Thursday 2 January, the warnings see all parts of the UK affected at some point in the week. The wet and windy weather will begin in Scotland and northern regions before moving downwards overnight on New Year’s Eve and into New Year’s Day.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for torrential downpours between midnight on Monday, December 30, right up to The Bells on Hogmanay.

An amber weather warning for heavy rain has been added to the catalogue of Met Office alerts in place over the New Year period. Forecasters expect ‘disruptive’ and potentially hazardous weather across almost all of the UK at various times in the next few days.
