The suit from California’s Democratic governor and attorney general claims Trump exceeded his authority in imposing tariffs that they say are creating immediate and irreparable harm to California’s economy.

Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday is expected to announce a lawsuit arguing that President Trump lacks the authority to enact the international tariffs without the support of Congress.

State officials argue in a lawsuit that the U.S. Constitution expressly gives the authority to impose tariffs to Congress.
