LOS ANGELES — The San Jose Sharks made history Saturday as they began day two of the NHL Draft by taking defenseman Haoxi (Simon) Wang with the 33rd overall pick at the start of the second round. Wang was born in Beijing in 2007 and with the pick, became the highest-drafted Chinese-born player in NHL history.

According to the St. Sebastian's X account, Mutryn is the 31st player in program history to be drafted to the pros, and the ninth since 2017. On the Sharks, he unites with 20-year-old center Will Smith, a fellow St. Sebastian's alum who hails from Lexington and was picked fourth overall in the 2023 draft.

A future Michigan State hockey player has been selected by the San Jose Sharks in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. Max Heise was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the fifth round of the NHL Entry Draft on Saturday. The Sharks used the No. 150 overall pick to obtain Heise's rights.
