Sam Mendes's HBO superhero satire series The Franchise has been cancelled after just one season. The show, which aired in November 2024, followed the crew of a franchise movie attempting to make their mark in an chaotic cinematic world, with Himesh Patel leading the cast.

The series, which counted 'Veep' creator Armando Iannucci and Sam Mendes as producers, debuted last October. HBO has canceled The Franchise, its series that parodied superhero movie franchises, after one season.

HBO has cancelled the showbiz satire after just one season, TVLine has confirmed. (Our sister site Deadline first reported the news.) Himesh Patel starred as Daniel, the first assistant director on a big-budget superhero movie that’s part of a Marvel-esque cinematic universe.

"The Franchise," the satirical comedy series about the making of a superhero movie, will not be returning for a second season on HBO.
