Just a few days after winning the Kentucky Derby, Sovereignty was ruled out of running in the Preakness Stakes. It is the second time in four years the owner and trainer of the Derby champion opted to skip the Preakness in favor of the Belmont Stakes in June.

There will be no Triple Crown winner in horse racing this year. Sovereignty, the three-year-old thoroughbred who won the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, will not race in the Preakness Stakes – the second leg of the three races that make up the Triple Crown.

Competing for your sport's highest achievement shouldn't be a question, but for horse racing's Triple Crown, it's not that simple.
