Americans are fighting about history. This past week, thousands of students from across the country came together to celebrate it.
In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a presidential proclamation establishing a national Flag Day on June 14, according to the Library of Congress. Both Wilson, in 1916, and President Coolidge, in 1927, issued proclamations asking for June 14 to be observed as National Flag Day.
National Donut Day, a pseudo-holiday that honors the beloved breakfast pastry, occurs annually on the first Friday in June. It was established in 1938 by The Salvation Army as a way to honor the organization's Donut Lassies, women who traveled to France to serve donuts and other snacks to soldiers during World War I, USA TODAY reported.
