Hanging out of the car with excitement, Marcelo Gomes da Silva couldn’t wait to return home to Milford on Thursday after spending six days in ICE custody. “The only thing I wanted to do when I got back here was hug my parents, my dad, yeah, my dad means the world to me,” said Marcelo Gomes da Silva.

A Milford High School student detained by federal immigration officials last week will be released from custody, a federal immigration judge ruled Thursday.

Outside of the courthouse, chants of “free Marcelo” turned to a cry of jubilation when word that “he’s getting out” hit the crowd.
