Under the state-federal partnership, an unspecified number of KBI agents would receive ICE training allowing them to issue immigration detainers, serve warrants for some immigration violations and arrest people allegedly in the U.

Some agents with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation will get ICE training to help arrest and execute warrants for immigrants in the state illegally.

KBI Director Tony Mattivi told The Star his agents will only be involved in arresting immigrants with a known criminal history.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) signed an agreement with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security allowing KBI agents to work with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to remove immigrants who are living in or who have entered the country illegally,

According to the AG’s Office, under the terms of the agreement, a limited number of KBI agents will receive ICE training which authorizes the agents to arrest illegal aliens, to serve and execute warrants for some immigration violations, and to issue immigration detainers.

Federal immigration agents are getting more help on the ground in Kansas to catch people who are undocumented.
